Deism is a religious and philosophical movement that recognizes God as the creator of the world but asserts that He does not interfere in the further course of the development of nature and society. Originating from the Latin word «deus» (god), this doctrine presents the Creator as a great watchmaker who crafted the clock of the universe and set its mechanism in motion. The concept that the universe was created with all its laws and now functions independently became widely spread with the aim of harmoniously uniting science and religion.
