Proselytism is a purposeful and active endeavor aimed at converting people to one’s own faith, drawing people of other beliefs or atheists to one’s religious views. Originating from the Greek word «proselytos» (newcomer, convert), this action is most often carried out through preaching or the distribution of religious literature. Because a secular society places great importance on a respectful attitude toward the beliefs of others, aggressive propaganda is restricted by law to prevent any fracture in the interconfessional harmony of society.
